Thomas Haliburton lived as a judge and a writer in Windsor, Nova Scotia. He became the first international best-selling author in Canada when he published his first book (1836). He went on to write several best-selling books. Earnest Hemingway included him in the rank of other writers such as James Joyce and Joseph Conrad (1923).
